Course Description

This presentation will cover the basic operation and understanding of criminal tax statutes, and provide examples of real-world scenarios of tax-related crimes. Current criminal prosecution trends with respect to criminal tax will also be covered.

Ryan Dean is a licensed attorney with the State Bar of Texas. He practices federal and state tax controversy, white-collar defense, business and tax planning, and civil litigation.  Given his experience in accounting and finance, he brings a unique perspective to the advocacy of clients. 

Dean is a graduate of the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. He focused his studies on tax law and litigation procedures, and he served on the editorial board of the SMU International Law Review. He also completed his Tax L.L.M. at SMU and participated in an off-campus mock trial during law school.  Before joining the firm, he gained experience as a clerk with the Department of Justice: Tax Division, focusing on federal tax controversies and civil litigation. His previous experience also includes serving as a judicial student clerk for a federal district judge in Texas’s Northern District.

Dean is a graduate of Pepperdine University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. After attending Pepperdine, he developed accounting knowledge and business skills as an accounting manager for a large, publicly-traded real-estate portfolio. Dean is also a member of the Dallas Bar Association.
