November’s federal tax developments saw the Tax Court agreeing to reconsider a decision from earlier this year (a rarity) in which the operation of a large Texas ranch with over $1 million in gross receipts despite net losses was found to be a hobby. On a less serious note, a high school teacher received a $25,000 penalty for making the frivolous argument that the Internal Revenue Code did not specifically impose a tax on public school teachers.
