Rico is a Vice President at Sapphire Sport, where he supports Sport’s portfolio and sources investment opportunities across the media, entertainment, and consumer software landscape. Rico is particularly passionate about virtual worlds and decentralized technology. He oversees Sapphire Sport’s unique platform of investors, networks, and communities to help drive tangible results to Sport’s portfolio.
Rico’s experience in the technology industry spans multiple functional areas. He began his career working at startups in the renewable energy industry and more recently held positions at Cisco and SAP. Throughout his career at SAP, he served in roles such as corporate development, sales strategy in APJ (Singapore), and corporate strategy for the Office of the CEO at Ariba.
Rico’s last position at SAP was on the strategic business development team, a small team created by SAP’s North American CEO to help SAP’s largest customers and partners define their digital transformation strategy. Rico has also supported social entrepreneurs in Indonesia and Sri Lanka in developing business models for social venture funds.
Janelle Teng is an investor in the San Francisco office, where she focuses primarily on growth investments in SaaS and cloud companies.
Before joining Bessemer, Janelle was a product manager at SalesforceIQ (formerly RelateIQ). She led mobile development (iOS and Android apps) for Salesforce Inbox and supported product strategy and operations during Inbox’s first year in the market. She began her career as a business analyst at McKinsey and Company, where she partnered with companies across various industries, including tech, retail, and healthcare, to develop and implement new growth and sales strategies.
A science enthusiast at heart, Janelle studied human biology and economics at Stanford University, where she graduated with academic distinction and departmental honors. She also earned an MBA at Harvard Business School. You can find Janelle trying to beat her personal record on her indoor cycling bike or binge-reading investigative journalism in her free time.
